Sources we use
- The business's Google Business Profile: name, category, address, phone, rating and map location.
- The business's own website: services, service areas, people and contact details.
- Independent public sources: industry directories, company records, editorial coverage and project credits.
- Wikidata: suburbs, local government areas and regions, so locations are tied to the right place.
What we check
- Name, category, address and phone number against the Google Business Profile and the business's website.
- Services and service areas against the business's website or Google Business Profile.
- People named on a profile, and links between businesses, against a public source that's linked on the profile.
- Location against Wikidata, including whether a suburb is inside the City of Wollongong.
When sources disagree
If sources give different details, such as two different suburbs, we use the Google Business Profile or the business's own website, and note the conflict under “Not yet verified” on the profile.
What we can't confirm
We don't fill gaps with guesses. Anything we couldn't confirm, such as opening hours or an ABN, is listed under “Not yet verified”. Claims made only by the business, such as awards or years in business, are labelled as the business's own claims.
Businesses based outside Wollongong
Some listed businesses are based in Sydney but work in the Illawarra. Their profiles show where they're really based, and link to the evidence of their Wollongong work, such as project pages or local service pages.
What “Featured” means
A featured business is shown first on the home page and in its category, and is marked “Featured”. Featured placement is chosen by the directory. It isn't a rating, and a featured business goes through the same checks as every other listing.
Ratings
Google ratings are shown as they appeared on the date checked, with a link to the original. We don't copy review text. See our review guidelines.
Structured data
Each profile includes schema.org structured data describing the business, its location, services and people, linked to Wikidata places. This helps search engines understand who each business is and where it works.
A listing is a starting point
A listing isn't an endorsement. Before you engage any business, check its licence, insurance and recent work with them directly. In NSW you can check a builder's or tradesperson's licence with NSW Fair Trading.
